I have begun to compile and categorize many of my written material dating back to 2010. There is even the possibility of locating some that originated prior to 2010.

I am pleasantly surprised at the amount of material I am sorting through, it is a daunting task. Attempting to place the sorted material into categories that will then be compressed into work that I can share.

During this process, I have come across many memories. Memories ranging from sad to mad, humorous, and serious. As well as some that are too personal to share, at least for now.

One category that I am particularly excited about is titled G.U.R., and acronym. Anyone care to take a guess at what it spells out? One little hint, my name is part of it.

Today I would like to share a short piece that I wrote at 1848, on August 7, 2016. A small glimpse into a day of mine.

8/7/16

0429.

The alarm goes off. I reach over a dog and smash the snooze button.

Damn! It is early. Savannah groans and rearranges, I should just get up now, I have to pee so bad but the desire to sleep wins.

After 2-3 rounds of fighting with the snooze button, maybe 4 rounds? The need to pee wins, I could not fall back to sleep anyway.

I get up, stumble around the house and make some coffee! https://christopherbean.com/ That wondrous brown coffee flavored hot water I love! I fill my mug to the rim, grab the breakfast I prepared last night and settle into the recliner with a warm fuzzy blanket. I am always cold, especially in the mornings and when the air conditioning is on.

Savannah is now up, I hear her scratching and a head shake from the other room. Savannah trots over and joins me in the chair, spinning and pawing the fuzzy blanket into a comfy nest while uncovering my bare feet! The little brat dog!

The coffee is so yummy! I love how quiet and still everything is early in the morning. My mind is still in a low state of consciousness. I quite often find this a great time to write, but not this morning. I proceed to fuel myself and let the doggies out so they can pee, load up my cooler, bike, and gear and leave.

It is now getting late, about 0620, very warm and muggy as it is just getting light enough to see well. I cruise onto I85 and looking east in my mirrors, I see and incredible orange sunrise! Being early on a Sunday morning the traffic is almost nonexistent.

Arriving at my destination about an hour later, I pay my entrance fee of just $2.00. A bargain for the opportunities that exist. I drive slowly on the entrance road looking for a trail that I can see on a very old map, and I wish to explore. Unfortunately for me, I cannot locate this trail from my car, I will ride back this way and may have more success from the bike.

I love riding here. https://southcarolinaparks.com/croft Awesome trails, safe parking, picnic areas, bathrooms, showers, and an incredible history.

I park, and begin gearing up to ride. I check the current conditions on my phone, it is already 74, and the humidity is 96% Fuck yeah! A great day to ride!

I immediately begin the ride on the park road back towards the main entrance for another attempt at locating the elusive trail. Soon I have a feeling of being watched, Scanning around, and then behind me I see a figure on a bicycle approaching from behind. Closing in on me extremely fast, I am soon overtaken by an older man on a road bike. I am amazed at how fast and effortlessly he rides by and soon disappears around the next corner on those skinny tires!

I make a short attempt to keep with him, soon realizing that is not happening! Following road and searching, for the trail I am looking for, eludes me once again! So, I abandon that effort and head to another trail!

Back to current day!

1/27/23

This ride was another great day to be on my bike, in the woods, and alone. I can be alone, but I am rarely lonely. When I am out, away from home like this the only things I miss Is my family! Tammy and the pups are my family. My happy place and my life. I apologize for the abrupt ending, I most likely fell asleep as I was writing. I very often will drift away, waking up later with a note book and a dog lying on me!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
