"Jack" The real failure is?   I am trying many new things. Things that even surprise myself. For years I have wondered what I want to be when I grow up.   For some crazy reason when I was in High School I decided that I wanted to be a machinist. Why? At the time the machining industry was held in very high regarded and machinist were considered to be very intelligent people! Not sure how I fit that later description?   **********************************************************   One thing in particular that was a prerequisite to be a machinist was to have excellent math skills. Which, was a big weakness for me.   My math grades were very low, hovering just above failure. Later I realized that it was not my intelligence that kept those grades so low. It was simple. I did not care. Why math I often thought? I could handle simple math. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.   What else would I ever need?   ...

Topics come to me in many ways and at odd times, I guess that I would not expect anything less from myself! This is not a new subject for me, but it resurfaced recently and enough pieces have come together for me to attempt to assemble those pieces into what was originally a short piece that now will be multi parts.  For the most part this is as all of my work, un edited. Un edited may suit me just fine, all neat, tidy, and in order is not really me. Should my writing be? I write for myself, so it is ok. Even spell-check has a problem with me!  "You are never as good as you think you are" That statement could be interpreted in many different ways. Recently I spent a day in my toy boat fishing. Preparing my gear for the day my confidence grew, it was going to be a great day and due to my expert skills I was going to catch so many fish. Not just many fish, but so many fish. Not only many fish, but big fish. Fish bigger than anyone has ever seen. Me. I. I was going to do i...

I cancelled my plans once again. Life happens.   Why would I do that again? I had an uneasy restless feeling that told me too. Several factors played key roles leading up to this.   I will admit I am disappointed, but also relieved. The weather was a factor driving this decision. Back in the day I would never let the weather influence a decision like this. Maybe I am getting soft? Yes, I am softening up, or some might say smartening up.   Regardless, the decision has created a window to be home and spend time with Mia and the whole pack. Time with Mia is so very precious. Time as a whole for me has become my most valuable commodity. I listen over and over and am I admit so fucking sick of hearing about inflation and some dumb ass who dislikes Disney.   Enough of that!   Part of the plan for the next few days was some testing. Testing myself and some projects I have in the works. The designer in me never stops creating, so much so it ...
WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THIS? Once again, why? Writing is nothing new to me, For many years I have always had a notebook at hand. For many years and even now I am a list maker. I love to make list. The list could be anything, and I do mean everything! A habit of this list making is that when I am away from home I make. List of things I need to do at home. This piece is not about list, so let's get back on topic. Writing, why? Why would I or anyone wish to write? Who am I to think. I am good enough to write? Who is to say that you have to be good at anything to want to do it? Society says you have to be good BEFORE you can do things. How does that work? Someone please tell me? I have my opinions about that, but I am not sharing that today. In my early twenties I began actually writing.   A few times I even tried 'journaling' but that sucked. For me it did. I just never had the desire for that type of writing. To this day I still do not journal. There times what I write could be...

I began part one of an ongoing series about colors and bass fishing. As with many of my pieces, it rapidly went down other worm holes (pun intended). Not only about colors, but strategies, mindsets, and even marketing. The series is not ready to debut as of yet. I began preparing a report of my latest adventure. A fishing report from a trip on 2/18/23 at one of my favorite bodies of water. Not only will this be a conditions report, I also made some important observations that will tie into the upcoming series that I have planned.   Twenty six chilly degrees as I left the house on the morning of February 18, 2023, a bit later than I prefer, avoiding people at the launching area, and also avoiding   traffic on the drive. Plus an early start gives me more time, and more time on the water. As a bonus I have an earlier time returning home. Not surprising, no one is at the launch, a man pulls in as I am preparing to put the kayak in the water. We speak for a few minutes, ...
